No matter the time of day or year, more often than not you’ll find me in a cotton top in some shape or form. I sleep in them, run in them, travel in them, sip coffee by day and wine by night in them, romp through the park with the dog and kiddos in them… you get the picture. I often cry toddler when explaining why I can’t seem to get out of my cottons, but truth be told even before the boys arrived I regularly frequented the dry cleaner to clean up many a self-inflicted chocolate and red wine stains, so wash-friendly cottons have always had more longevity in my wardrobe. Of course now with the children I am maybe enjoying even more chocolate and more red wine than ever… so add in two sets of little hands and the odds of remaining stain-free are never, ever in my favor. Past of Prep: Weekend Polish
Just as the Seven Sisters’ campus casuals spurred a style revolution forever changing the attitudes and wardrobes of young America women, their smart weekend getaway look had an equally alluring and influential effect on the makings of American preppy style.
Putting themselves on the map with their chic “borrowed from the boys” inspired wardrobes, come Friday, Seven Sisters girls underwent a style transformation for a more polished version of their weekday campus classics. The Seven Sisters schools earned the nickname “Suitcase Colleges” because every Friday most students packed a suitcase and hit the road for a weekend filled with proms and sporting events at neighboring men’s colleges, parties and dinners in New York City and Boston, or hit the ski slopes and hiking trails at East Coast resorts. Wearing it Now: The Tourist Tee
The Mister and I had a night out together this weekend (thanks Grandpa) and we went to a local beer garden with some friends. I’m regularly not a beer drinker, but when in Rome do as the Romans do. Anywho, for the night I sported my favorite new souvenir from our recent trip to California- a t-shirt from Russian River Brewery in Santa Rosa, California. While we were in Napa we made a special trip up to Santa Rosa to visit this brewery, which is one of the best in the country. The infamous brews didn’t disappoint, and it wasn’t until we got there that we discovered that the joint’s pizza was equally as good as the beer. Really though, I would go on a trip to Santa Rosa just for another slice. Okay a whole pizza but who’s counting 🙂 . Read More
Wearing it Now: Black, White, and Cabernet
The Mister and I just got back from a trip to California last week. He travels quite a bit for work and I tag along for the good destinations when I can. We spent two days in San Francisco then drove across the Golden Gate Bridge and up Highway 101 to Calistoga in Napa Valley. A packing post will be up on the blog soon, so I won’t go into what was in my suitcase, but wanted to share my favorite look from the trip. After a red-eye back into D.C. followed by a days long Napa hangover (totally worth the pain) I am now recovered from my zombie like state and finally sharing this “wearing it then” post. Available pieces are in the Shop page. Read More
On the Double Travels: London
This summer the Mister and I took our first international trip sans babies to London and while there were some tears (solely on my end) leaving the boys with their grandparents it was an absolutely fabulous and much needed getaway. Don’t get me wrong, I love my stars and stripes through and through, but in my head I think I am some sort of French/British/New Englander hybrid, so visiting London felt a bit like visiting the motherland of my dreams (this dream will be completed when I make it to Paris.) The history, the culture, the parks, the tea! It was too much. If it wasn’t so hot I might have returned to America covered in tartan wool and vintage fur coats compliments of Notting Hill. Unfortunately, I didn’t nonchalantly run into and take tea with Pippa Middleton, so that just means I need to go back and try again :). On a more realistic note, as I’m still reminiscing on our visit and already imagining up plans for our next trip to England, I wanted to share some travel tips and highlights on London. And if you do find yourself there, lucky you! Read More
