The Past of Prep: Part One

The Past of Prep: Part One

When I launched this blog I decided I would put together a reading list to educate myself on the history of fashion. While I’m only a couple of books in on my first era, it has been so inspiring I decided to do a collection of posts on the topic. Thus, the style series: The Past of Prep, a look into the rule breaking pioneers of “borrowed from the boys” dressing and the women that founded the enduring American tradition of classic preppy style. Tying the Knot- Handkerchief Style

Tying the Knot- Handkerchief Style

Time to get your hankies out. The handkerchief neck scarf has deservedly been going strong as the It accessory for the past few seasons. Elegant, edgy, and classic all (literally and figuratively) rolled into one, this accessory packs quite the punch. Like most, if not all trends, the key to successful execution is styling the trend to blend with your own style. I’m definitely half introvert half extrovert in my approach to styling in that part of me wants to stand out, and the other wants to blend in as much as possible. It must fit you so well that every time you put it on it feels as if it was made specifically for you. The Wardrobe Hero series is about featuring what those pieces are and how to get the most out of them. Read More

Wearing it Now: Heirloom Knits

I am quite partial to red, and you can’t go wrong with the knit, denim, and boots combination for fall. A massive rainstorm is on the forecast, and today I will be out and about with the boys running errands and getting some time in at the park before the downpour. I’ve got a vintage cotton t-shirt on underneath the sweater, and I’m basically on cloud nine that it’s cool enough for boots and layers 🙂 . Read More

Autumn Wishlist: On the Double

Autumn Wishlist: On the Double

With the summer months come and gone and AW 2016 fashion month in full swing debuting the latest (but not always greatest) Autumn and Winter trends, I’m longing to pack up my summer gear and pull out my knits, leathers, and suedes. Unfortunately, indian summer in the District tends to linger on until mid October so I’ll be waiting at least a few more weeks before dawning the striped knits and block heeled boots I can’t wait to get my hands on. That said, because autumnal anticipation is as strong as a double shot pumpkin spice late, I’m already looking ahead to my fall wardrobe which typically consists of ankle boots, and transitional jackets and accessories layered over my summer cottons, linens, and denim.
