The Breton dress is hands down one of the top five staples in my closet. My love of stripes really reaches no bounds, but is perfected in dress form via the striped frock. Dresses are often coined as the go-to 60 second outfit, and the oh so versatile and relaxed Breton dress cuts it down to about 30 seconds flat. A wardrobe hero forever more as they never go out of style, are sinfully comfortable, and positively tres chic. In true French fashion, the classic and understatedly elegant Breton dress is a hero for day-to-night dressing. Read More

Great Expectations
Even before becoming “Mama” to my little boys, Mother’s Day has always been a very important day for me. My mother created a very magical and loving childhood for me so taking a day to celebrate her is a day well spent. Spring afternoons crawling through a maze of wired tunnels she built for me throughout her gardens in our backyard. Summer nights on Nantucket Island spent laying on the hood of the car watching the stars overtop Brant Point lighthouse. Trekking up and down the slopes of Virginia’s apple orchards in search of perfectly crisp Braeburns in the Fall, and snuggled up together by the fire on cold Winter nights. So many of my most treasured memories growing up happened because she made them for me. Even now as an (almost) adult, she continues to guide and support me, except now she isn’t teaching me how to bake my clay sculptures in the toaster oven or how to set the table, but more so how to support and guide my own children. A Seersucker for Corduroys
I really am a sucker for anything corduroy. Trousers, mini skirts, jackets, hats, you name it… there isn’t anything quite like corduroy that can bring both boyish charm and retro appeal to a look all at the same time. Essentially a ridged velvet, this durable yet buttery soft fabric has the ability to hug the body in the most sophisticated yet sumptuous ways. Moreover, practically every color unequivocally becomes more rich and saturated in its corduroy form. In my closet corduroy is mostly the fall/winter equivalent to my spring/summer twill chinos. Although a cold weather staple, corduroys are also great for easing your wardrobe from winter to spring. As the weather fluctuates and we go back and forth between reaching for the puffer jacket one day and sandals the next, corduroy pieces accommodate the undecided weather working just as well with cotton tees as they do chunky knits.
Opposites Attract
One of my favorite things to do when creating outfits is working with pieces in really remarkable colors. I’m a very visual person and there’s just something about an elegant color scheme bringing out a color’s raw beauty that just feels really good to me. In fact I get a lot of color inspiration from random things I come across in my daily pursuits such as an intricately painted row house, a vintage poster, or a unique dish pattern. Whatever it happens to be, when I see something that really grabs my attention I look closer to pick out the basic components so that I can recreate the same scheme with pieces in my wardrobe. Warming Up Stripes
Stripes are undoubtedly an all-season pattern, but for me they really shine during spring and summer. Classic, effortless, and easy to live in, stripes are so much more than just a pattern, they’re a state of mind. I’ll wear stripes occasionally during fall and winter, but when it’s warm out stripes are basically the equivalent to the infamous plain white tee. Read More
