The Mister and I just got back from a trip to California last week. He travels quite a bit for work and I tag along for the good destinations when I can. We spent two days in San Francisco then drove across the Golden Gate Bridge and up Highway 101 to Calistoga in Napa Valley. A packing post will be up on the blog soon, so I won’t go into what was in my suitcase, but wanted to share my favorite look from the trip. After a red-eye back into D.C. followed by a days long Napa hangover (totally worth the pain) I am now recovered from my zombie like state and finally sharing this “wearing it then” post. Available pieces are in the Shop page. Read More
Breakfast On the Double
Breakfast is without a doubt the most important meal of the day. Add in a family and it can also be the most stressful. Yet breakfast is one area in our family’s schedule that I really have to make sure to take care of myself at because if I don’t get something to eat within the first few hours of waking up it’s really difficult for me to function and then mommy is not happy. And we all know when mom isn’t happy ain’t nobody happy! Read More
Wardrobe Hero: the Field Jacket
Wardrobe heroes are the pieces that pull everything together; the keystone of your closet. An absolute necessity for getting dressed on the double! They are tried and true staples so adaptable they can be styled with a variety of different personal styles and trends. Beyond the composition of the hero itself there are three key factors that make a hero a hero: functionality, quality, and fit. It must be a functional piece that you can throw on to walk the dog or for a night out with the girls. It must be of good quality to sustain the many, many wears and washes (because there’s nothing worse than wearing out a beloved hero.) It must fit you so well that every time you put it on it feels as if it was made specifically for you. The Wardrobe Hero series is about featuring what those pieces are and how to get the most out of them. Read More
Wearing it Now: Heirloom Knits
I am quite partial to red, and you can’t go wrong with the knit, denim, and boots combination for fall. A massive rainstorm is on the forecast, and today I will be out and about with the boys running errands and getting some time in at the park before the downpour. I’ve got a vintage cotton t-shirt on underneath the sweater, and I’m basically on cloud nine that it’s cool enough for boots and layers 🙂 . Read More
Autumn Wishlist: On the Double
With the summer months come and gone and AW 2016 fashion month in full swing debuting the latest (but not always greatest) Autumn and Winter trends, I’m longing to pack up my summer gear and pull out my knits, leathers, and suedes. Unfortunately, indian summer in the District tends to linger on until mid October so I’ll be waiting at least a few more weeks before dawning the striped knits and block heeled boots I can’t wait to get my hands on. That said, because autumnal anticipation is as strong as a double shot pumpkin spice late, I’m already looking ahead to my fall wardrobe which typically consists of ankle boots, and transitional jackets and accessories layered over my summer cottons, linens, and denim.
