It’s been a while since my last fitness post and after this past very lazy and indulgent Memorial Day weekend I thought I would share a round up of some new high intensity interval training (HIIT) workouts I’m doing this week to kickstart my summer workout regime. I workout at home, usually on my deck because I enjoy getting the fresh air, so all of these workouts require minimal space and equipment to complete. In my opinion HIIT workouts are one of the most efficient and effective ways to get your exercise in. I don’t have a ton of time in the morning (who does?!) and high intensity training allows me to fit a great workout into a limited window of time. These five workouts all take 30 minutes or less and require dumbbells or no equipment at all! I suggest 10-15 lbs. which is just my preference, but feel free to adjust the weight to whatever works for you.

Beyond resisting the urge to snooze, which takes some serious mental fitness, when I create my own fitness plan I am genuinely excited about my workouts and feel a very strong physical and mental sense of accomplishment when I complete them. I’m a big advocate of pre-programming workouts, and I prefer to schedule out one month at a time. In my experience this practice helps with both creating a well-rounded fitness plan and staying on track with my goals. Read More
Fit Bitties
I grew up playing sports and have always been a pretty active person. Since graduating from college and retiring my lacrosse cleats, running and interval workouts have been my go to’s for fitness. I’ll throw in a hike, swim, or Bikram yoga class here or there, but running and HIIT workouts work with my schedule so that’s what I do on a regular basis. My motivation to workout is of course to stay in shape, but since becoming a mom in particular it’s mostly driven by the effects it has on my energy level and mental fitness. Plus, when you’re carrying and chasing two toddlers around at once, it helps to be able to keep up with them. Read More
