Essential to dressing on the double is stocking your wardrobe with a few pieces that really put an exclamation point on the outfit, and in this case a rather red exclamation point. These loafers were a recent purchase and I am utterly smitten. I have always loved loafers but never wore them much because the ones I had weren’t comfortable. This pair is comfortable, sturdy, and timeless. With plenty of room in the toe box I could even get away with wearing trouser socks with them when it gets cold out.
The patent leather, which is very in right now, is great for unexpected inclement weather. I love suede shoes, but for a shoe I plan to wear running around a lot I didn’t want to have to worry about stains and treatments. The first day I wore these (pictured) it was a rainy day and they held up fantastically.
Statement shoes are my absolute favorite outfit maker. Because I don’t like to wear finicky clothes and prefer to keep things pretty simple, I often turn to my footwear to give my outfit that extra lift to elevate and complete the look. Here the red loafer gives a very tomboy look a good dose of femininity. To create a monochrome palate I paired a blue striped cocktail shirt with denim in a similar medium shade of blue.
Serving as my third piece is the iconic trench coat- the perfect topper for fall/spring transitional days. This is an unlined trench coat I picked up from Gap years ago. I think in the future I’ll be investing in a more structured and lined version, but for now this one works just fine and I don’t have to worry about little fingers getting dirt and stains on it.
